GlenDronach 1992 26yrs Cask #8318

50.8% PX Puncheon - Specially bottled for Whisky-Online.com

Another shop exclusive 1992, and Sister cask to the first 1992 from last year’s #220, Whisky-onlilne.com’s second offering is here for review.

Appearance: Dark Amber. Thin oily legs cling to the glass.

Nose: Sour macerated cherries and fruit hit the nose initially, then cooked banana, grape juice, faint dried figs, timid chocolate, and a gentle spirit appear.

Palate: Light sweetness and dried nuts followed by a leathery and tart element appear, akin to thick dried apple skins. It then takes on a more ashen and woody note with a light bitterness and an oily residue. In the distance there are Cola Cubes and tobacco.

Finish: Long with a sweetness at the back & sides of the tongue. White pepper warmth and bitter notes take residence at the top of the tongue and roof of the mouth – all supported by a light oiliness. More gentle pepper and dryness finish it all off with light cigar ash on the exhale.

Water adds.. More fruit, grass, and balsamic on the nose. Sweetness and less dryness on the palate. There’s more ash on the exhale.

Conclusion: To me, it tastes younger than the stated age of 26 years and would probably completely stump me in a blind taste. It’s also a tiny out-turn of just 233 bottles, so I don’t know if it’s a split cask with someone else or it was a cask in need of rescuing. That said, the 50.8 ABV lends itself to being a very easy drinker, and adding water would be (in my opinion), a waste of time.
